The vaccination deadline and vaccine schedule considerations remain unchanged. All federal employees must be fully vaccinated by November 22, 2021.

The eight-day quarantine requirement is intended for those faculty and staff members who have been working remotely. They are to quarantine for eight days before they and students return in person to campus for the spring semester. W&M anticipates most of these employees will return in mid- to late-January and February. As mission needs evolve or change, so can requirements for mission-essential on-site operations. Employees on telework status or weather and safety leave remain subject to recall for mission-related reasons and should be postured to return to duty within one day of notification.

Spring semester and vaccine rollout update

According to the CDC, pregnant women experience immunologic and physiologic changes that might make them more susceptible to viral respiratory infections, including COVID-19. Counties throughout California are closely monitoring the speed and extent of the virus’ spread and may at some point recommend closures or other actions that would interrupt business as usual. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that any closure of our colleges or district offices would be done in consultation with the county health department. At my request, Vice Chancellor Dorene Novotny initiated a process for identifying critical issues and options for ensuring educational continuity for our students should closures become necessary. The blueprint also lays out which kinds of decisions should be made by the faculty, the colleges or the district.

Holiday messages from higher-ups are powerful

Some higher education industry analysts project COVID-19 related enrollment declines as high as 20%. The potential for ongoing travel bans may limit options for international students or domestic students seeking study abroad. High unemployment levels may constrain some families’ options.

Thanking Employees & Showing Staff Appreciation

While no decision has been made with regard to shifting to online course delivery due to concerns related to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), we are now asking all faculty to prepare to go online with their instruction. We are requesting that faculty have an online delivery instructional plan for all classes (e.g., lectures, labs, performance, recitation, arts, etc.) finalized no later than March 30… We know the stresses of pursuing your degree continue whether you are on campus or remote.

• Masks remain in short supply globally and are at this point being directed by governments to the highest-need facilities like hospitals and clinics.
• Through all the turmoil, you are the reason why patients are able to recover.
• My wife and I had our first shots today and the process was smooth and awesome.
• Over 95% of our leaders supported this idea.
• As a long time volunteer I know what you do.

If you didn’t have the courage to help my family would have been sick in February and we would not have known. Keep up the good work and remember you are making a change in this pandemic.

Thank you for risking your own health to ensure the community gets tested safely. Our family appreciates your time and selflessness during this difficult time. Everyone was so friendly, efficient…you rock! We have received our second shot and want to say thanks to all the health care workers for an excellent job, the process was efficient and friendly. We went to the antioch facility and it was very smooth and and easy, thanks again, best regards. Thank you for all the care and support you provide for all the patients that have died and are struggling to stay alive,thank you for putting your lives on the line, so brave and we show deep respect and love to all of you.

Kudos to bringing technology into the “light”. I would like to express my thanks to our community partners as well. Whether it was organizing a team of volunteers to support our meal distribution efforts, or donating thousands of bags to help us deliver Chromebooks and return materials to our students, our community was there in our time of need. Thank you so much for the great care that you have provided for others. In a stressful time like this, you’ve been there for us. I know it must be difficult and challenging as a professional. For your continued hard work and support, i can only send this gratitude to you.

Every day, our physicians and scientists increase our understanding of COVID-19. Testing capacity and PPE supply are expanding, treatments are improving. We have time to prepare now, using our growing knowledge, that we didn’t have this spring. At this time, campus buildings remain locked and closed to the public. As President Rowe mentioned in her May 19 message, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s Phase I reopening of state businesses does not change this.

On March 12, 2020, Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic that is ongoing. William & Mary’s response to the pandemic and reopening follows Commonwealth guidelines. Employees working in outdoor spaces are not required to wear face coverings as long as a 6’ physical distance from others can be maintained continuously during their activity.
